MIDSUMMER's NIGHT DREAM

About the Game

The game is a first person walking simulator based off of the famous shakespearean play, a Midsummer’s Night Dream. It aims to capture the dream-like atmosphere of the fairies forest at midnight, using exaggerated colours and lighting. The style itself is borderline realistic. Its main focus is on exploration, however narrative and interactive gameplay elements are introduced to make the player feel more immersed in the world.

Puck is the levels main narrator, who appears throughout the level to guide and amuse the player. Due to the plays convoluted plot we wanted to allude to main plot points in the play through visual cues, such as the purple flowers Puck uses to cause mischief, and the stone donkey fountain next to Titania in the final clearing, who represents her temporary lover Bottom. In short the environment is more of a visual unfolding of the story that the player gets to explore in their own time.

It ends with the player falling down the tree in the second clearing. This leads to Oberon's realm, and could be continued in multiple ways in the future, such as leading to an underground forest where the player will come across Oberon, and learn more about his part in the play.
